Weekend Top Ten 12/5-8: Starry nights with Sutton Foster, Nick Offerman, Tony Bennett and more

1) Sutton Foster at the Cap.
The star of the acclaimed TVLand series Younger (pictured above) is also a two-time Tony®-winning Broadway musical actress, an irresistible performer who can handle everything from Carole King to Oklahoma! with panache. Fri. 12/6, 8 p.m., Bilheimer Capitol Theatre, Clearwater.

2) Nick Offerman: All Rise at the Straz.Don’t know which Nick I cherish more: Nick as the gloriously dour Ron Swanson on Parks & Recreation, Nick as the slightly off-center crafts guy on Making It, or Nick and wife Megan Mullally making the neighbors nervous with salacious-sounding invitations on those TV ads for Sling TV. 3) John Prine at Ruth Eckerd.The award-winning composer of such classics as “Angel from Montgomery” and “Hello in There”  (and occasional Gulfport resident) returns to Ruth Eckerd in support of The Tree of Forgiveness, his first album of original material in over 13 years. 4) Tony Bennett at the Mahaffey.The ageless wonder is still going strong at 93 and still showing off his remarkable chops. Thurs. 12/5, 7:30 p.m., The Mahaffey Theater at Duke Energy Center for the Arts, St. Petersburg, themahaffey.com.

5) ArtJones Open Studio Tour in Gulfport.An annual self-guided tour, show and sale of fine original artwork in Gulfport. Twenty artists are ready to welcome you into their studios and gallery spaces, including ceramicist Brenda McMahon (that’s her work above), who founded ArtJones and opened her own gallery just this year. 6) Holiday Magic Sip & Stroll in the EDGE District
St. Pete’s booming EDGE District is throwing a party tonight (Thursday). Buy a ticket at the Suncoast Credit Union (1022 Central) or at the event’s Welcome Area and you get to enjoy specialty drinks, small plates, shopping deals and live music everywhere from Dr. BBQ (mini pork sliders) to German Knödle (Cage Brewing Peanut Butter and Chocolate Porter) to Hawkers (Po Po Lo’s Curry) to Enigma (Jingle Juice) and many more.  Thurs. 12/5, 5-9 p.m., edgedistrict.org. 7) The Florida Orchestra: Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6. Michael Francis conducts Tchaikovsky’s gorgeous, heart-rending “Pathetique” symphony and Natalie Hoe plays the heavenly sounds of Mozart on her clarinet. 8) Tampa Theatre Late-Night REWIND Series: Bad Santa. Billy Bob Thornton as a sex-addicted alcoholic department-store Santa who robs shopping malls at night with his elf sidekick? Now that’s a Christmas movie! Screens at 10:30 p.m. Fri. 12/6, 10:30 p.m., tampatheatre.org. 

9) Tampa Museum of Art Family Day. It’s a pay-as-you will Family Day Saturday at the Tampa Museum, a family-friendly celebration inspired by current exhibitions and featuring make-and-take art projects, interactive activities, refreshments, and live holiday music. Sat. 12/7, 11 a.m.-4 p.m., tampamuseum.org.

10) 42nd Annual St. Petersburg Power and Sailboat Show. More than 400 power and sailboats and 250 exhibitors will be on display in this, the largest boat show on the Gulf Coast. Attractions include motor yachts like the 70E Ocean Alexander (pictured) and the Marlow Explorer 66E; boats from local custom builder Dorado Custom Boats; a 47,557-square-foot exhibition tent; more than 60 free seminars led by industry experts; complimentary sailboat rides; and kids’ fishing clinics.
